Eye-Opening Patterns — Part 1
Whether we want this to happen or not, there is a huge truth about all of us. We are, by the compound efforts of our ancestors, creatures of habit. And here is how.
The body doesn’t thrive on anxiety and fear, and therefore, instead of looking for survival, we turn to the opposite of and we start pursuing ✨comfort✨.
Once we get comfortable, of course, we want more of that. And we start doing the things that bring comfort over and over again until there’s no more need for a conscious decision to do it.
And that means building habits.
If we’re lucky enough, we get so comfortable that at some point our belief will start changing and we will be capable enough to make ourselves feel comfortable out of every uncomfortable experience and feeling we might have.
Still, there is a sharp edge we might find ourselves walking into.
Being habitual creatures has huge advantages over living in unpredictability or environments that are constantly changing. This might not always be true for some people, we all have our differences, but for most of us, our bodies are rarely prepared for big changes.
Just like we can physically endure the consequence of a night out with our friends after a week that was filled with a constant work schedule. We can live it as a one-time thing, or we can do it every night and make a habit out of it.
Because everything can become a habit.
Just like a teenage person trying out cigarettes for the first time and only smoking when they’re around friends, more or less conscious, the energy and effort put into repeating it is still there.
And most of our everyday decisions are just habits and nothing else.
We rarely wonder why our morning routines start by going to the bathroom, or looking in the mirror, or checking our phones the first moment we open our eyes.
And that’s because we have programmed our brains to perform such decisions.
But as we all know, decisions can be good and bad.
Once we’re in control of our decisions, we’re in control of our lives.
Getting a grip over how conscious or unconscious our decisions can be on a daily basis can be quite exhausting.
Just imagine keeping track of every thought you had and decision you made, analyzing it and giving it a scale over how conscious it was. It has little to no worth for most of us, but quite useful for some individuals.
But you cannot see the patterns of your life if you never decide to open your eyes to the madness of decisions you’re making. And to give it a try, as always, start small.
It takes a different pattern to change an existing one.
And it takes a decision to start creating a replacement.
